The Setting...

We find ourselves in the modern city of Demaitre that is comparable in many aspects to such civilization centers as Toronto or New York. The skyscrapers have replaced the trees that once flourished, and pavement smothers the grass that strives to grow. The city never seems to sleep; cars prowl the streets well after the sun has set, and continue to do so after the glory of daylight has returned to give colour to the grey landscape. Among the masses of humans who dwell in the urban world they have created are the immortals, the blood drinkers, the vampires. Those who live off of the lives of others, and have varying opinions about their existence.

The mortals are unaware of the potential danger to their short and simple lives that lurks within every shadow after the sun has set. Five covens, or clans, of vampires dwell within this single city alone, hunting their own territories and often causing great upheaval if they take prey in the domain of others. These immortals are divided by personality and ability, and even age: Amman, the Guardians, who have seen millennia pass and are keen on preserving the secret of the blood drinkers from the mortals. Nephim, the Shadowwalkers, who stalk the darkness of eternity with the occasional human for their light. Enashe, the Divided, who attempt life as mortals do, but cannot deny their awakening from death and ignore the precious blood which is a part of them. Tarepha, the Demonic, who prowl the underground and terrorize whom they please, be they vampire or human. And Ishak, the Classical, who are above all proud of their vampiric ways and will not accept a life of cowering in secrecy and darkness.

There are also those without the shelter of a coven, simply called Independents. They live their lives as they choose, but often find themselves in harder times than what those who live in groups discover. Hunting between the coven territories, the Independents are prone to be harassed by the Ishak or the Tarepha, but their dignity tends to keep them on their lonesome path through the ages, shunning the company of other Immortals.

The Predicament...

The occupation of five vampire covens of one city, however large, is bound to cause some tension among the immortals. Disputes over territory, living style, belief, and choice prey occur unfortunately often, and none of the Coven Leaders are willing to move their followers elseware. The Amman do what they can to keep these spats from shining the light of mortal awareness onto the vampires, but they can only do so much. Soon, they may be forced to begin reducing the size of the covens by any means nessecary. It is fortunate that we live in an ignorant age, where an occurence of supernatural display is quick to be snuffed out of public eye by scientific explanation, or mere disbelief.
