General Rules

1. Remain as active as possible. This is a fairly active RPG, and if characters do not remain active it could all go downhill fairly quickly. So, the consequence to breaking this rule, is that if you are not active for one month, without reason, you will be deleted. This is mostly to encourage telling folks when you up and leave for a while, so that conversations don't fall in. (Post here if you're going to be away, and when you return.)

2. Adult content is allowed. The rating for this RPG is approximately 17+, though if you have the maturity level to deal with what this rating allows (sex, rape, murder, swearing, descriptive violence and gore, etc), you are welcome to join. However, please keep in mind that we don't need to go overboard on the adult RP instances. I would like to keep things tasteful. Restrain yourself to one adult occurrence every two weeks, or perhaps once a month.

3a. You can play as many characters as you can keep active. Self explanatory rule, really. If you find that you do create too many characters for you to keep active, feel free to IM me about it with a request to remove those you are unable to play.

3b. Do not create player characters that could just as easily function as NPCs. Instead of creating stats for your primary character’s estranged ex-wife to be involved in one plotline and then discarded, please simply play her as an NPC (non-player character). Often, when characters are created to be one time use only, they are poorly made and rushed, and more or less infuriate whatever mod comes upon them. The exception is, of course, for vampires over 200, or with any ability/position in society that would need to be approved by a mod.

4. Keep in character as much as possible. If you need to say something quick relating to your post or someone else's, that is permitted, but no discussions about how cute so-and-so is popping up in the middle of a conference. If you need to hop OOC for a moment, simply put "OOC:" before what you want to say, and "IC:" when you're ready to go back into your in character post. If you want to have a whole conversation with another player OOC, then that's what the OOC board is there for.

5. Advertising is restricted to the appropriate board. Please post advertisements on the Advertising Board only. Please do not add links to outside sites in your signatures, or post links in the cbox. If you run or are part of an advanced RPG forum-based site that you would like to brother site with Vital, please send me a PM with a link to the site in question and I may consider it. RPGs with a central theme of vampires, demons/angels, and general modern fantasy are preferred.

6a. Post a Character Description. Post a character description in the appropriate section to be approved by one of the approving members of the site. The members approving descriptions are Marcus, Lilla, Cole, Nafretiri, and Tsuka Nitta. If you join the site but do not post a complete character description within one month, or do not post anything at all for that matter, you will be deleted at the end of the month.

6b. Post a complete Character Description. Please do not post a character description until it is complete, and ready to be inspected by a mod. This goes for your first character and all those after. Character descriptions will not be approved unless they are finished. Additionally, if you post an incomplete stat page and finish it two months later, the mods won't know about it (side-note: you will be dismembered if you PM the entire mod team to get someone to find it and approve it), and your account will forever be unregistered.

7. If you need to post vignettes to detail happenings in your character’s life, either past or present, please do so under your character profile board in Character Descriptions. As these are generally one-sided, it is impossible for others to join in, and therefore are not technically RPs. So keep them to your profile, where people can read them if they need to.

8. Signatures. Since I seem to now be allowing images in signatures, please do not post any over 500 pixels wide by 200 pixels high. Anything larger may disrupt the layout of the forum, and slow down loading for those users not blessed with DSL or cable internet. Additionally, do not post more images than will exceed this limit. The overall size of your signature shouldn't be more than 500 x 200. Please scale your images accordingly.

9a. Multiple Characters. Please try not to create any more characters than you can keep active. If you create multiple characters before you are registered, you will be registered as the first character you posted {mortal, Nephim, Independent, etc}. If you create a new character, you will remain registered as your older character, unless you request the change.

9b. Multiple Accounts. Please do not register with more than one account. You do not need to make a new account for each character.

10. Copyright. All information found on this site (excluding character statistics and role-plays, which are copyrighted to their respective creators/authors) is restricted to use within Vital: An Advanced Vampire RPG only, and may not be copied or altered in any way for use on other sites/works of literature/etc. See "To Know Before Joining" for specifics regarding copyright. (Translation: If you steal/copy content from my site, you will be banned from Vital, and reported to whatever host you're using for your site, which will, in turn, delete your account, since everything on the web is copyrighted to its original creator upon posting, and every host TOS ((Terms of Service)) that you come across on the web supports this.)

Role-Playing Rules

1. Avoid cliché. That is, make a character that is new and interesting. Also, in this RP I require that you make characters that are unique to you, and not pulled from a book. (eg. No Lestat, no Louis, no Dracula.)

2. Be descriptive. Avoid one-liners as though your life depended on it. I'm calling this an 'advanced' RPG because I expect the players to be capable of writing interesting posts.

3. Don't be overly descriptive. No one wants to read a five-post description of a dress, down to the last seam.

4. Use clear, precise language, and always be sure of the meaning of a word or synonym before using it. Don’t thesaurus-thump, but don’t be afraid to use one, either. (eg. 'Orbs' are not eyes. 'Orbacle' is not a word.)

5. Do not powerplay, godmode, be a twinkie, etc. If there is one thing that annoys me, and many others, to the point of breaking into insane rants of frustration, it's god-moding. Play your character and your character only, please. I'll be liable to ban you for a few weeks for the first offence, and ban you entirely if it's done again.

6. Keep an eye on spelling and grammar. This sort of goes with the descriptive post rule; use punctuation where it is required, and always check for typos before you post. And, for the love of chocolate, please no chat-speak.

7. Your characters can die. For each coven, weaknesses are listed for a purpose. Should any of the covens come to fight each other, or should there be a mortal uprising against the covens, vampires will be killed in the fighting. Mortals, of course, can also die.

8. Do not turn a mortal without their consent. By this, I of course mean the consent of that particular character's player. You may only change a mortal character into a vampire if the mortal's player has either asked you to, or you have been given permission.

9. NPCs are allowed for feeding purposes. I highly doubt that we will have enough PC mortals to allow every vampire their own personal meal ticket, so feel free to use NPC mortals, or even animals to feed from. Those who may drink dead blood can also steal packets from blood clinics to keep in storage for when they require nourishment.

10a. Vampire slayers and Daywalkers are not allowed. There are to be no Buffys, no Blades, etc. The idea here is that any mortal who knows about vampires is either killed, brain-washed, or invited regularly to the covens for a meal or two. As far as Daywalkers go, that sort of defeats the purpose of being a vampire, now doesn't it?

10b. Vampiric vampire slayers are not allowed. Reason being, every other vampire in the world would gang up on them if need be and kill them (if the Amman didn't get to them first).

Registering

Hopefully, you have at least skimmed all that is above, and read the bolded sections at the very least. So, what do you do now? First, register yourself an account. The link for doing so can be found at the top of the page, in the section after the Google ad.

Your user name does not have to be your character name, but please make it something tasteful. Also, it is likely not necessary to include numbers in your username.

Next, you must send a PM or e-mail to me [Marcus], declaring that you are human and not a spam bot. Until you do this, you will not be able to post any topics, or do anything other than look at the pretty board and all its posts that you can't interact with. Once you have sent me such a PM, I will move you to a member group which will allow you to post and, generally, function as our newest member of the board. There may be a bit of a delay before I can get to your PM, but don't fret; I check the board every few hours most days, and will get you set up ASAP.

Lastly, I require you to copy and paste the appropriate form, which is then to be filled in and posted in the Character Descriptions forum, located in the OOC section. The forms are located on separate threads in the To Know Before Joining section. You post them in the Character Description section, which is the last forum on the main Vital page. After doing so, you may go ahead and post in character. One of the mods (Marcus, Jill, Cole, Nafretiri, or Tsuka Nitta) will eventually post a reply to your character stats. If the reply requests that you fix something, please fix it ASAP, or your account will be banned within a month. This applies to all character stats after your initial posting as well.

For the Topic Title of your character description, please enter your character's name {doesn't have to be the full name, just whatever name you'll be using}. For Vampires: In the space for Topic Description, please enter in the coven your character belongs to, or Independent. For Mortals: Please enter mortal in the Topic Description.

Just to make sure things are extremely clear, let's go over that again. Copy and paste the stats sheet in the Character Descriptions forum before posting in character.

{Once you have posted your character description, you are free to RP. You do not need to be approved or registered before you post. You will be contacted if there is a problem, and you need to stop posting. - Lilla}

A Footnote About Missing Posts:

As you navigate around the site, you may come across posts that have been wiped out, and in their wake the message, “This topic is missing posts. We are working to restore these posts.” exists. The fact is, there is nothing that I, personally, can do about restoring these posts; as of November of 2006, the server that Vital is stored on crashed, and we lost all of our posts between March 1, 2006 and November 16, 2006. Efforts were made by InvisionFree to restore the lost data, but they ultimately failed.

For the most part, important posts that were lost have been rewritten, or retrieved via Google cache, and the placeholder posts simply continue to exist to taunt us all.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's about all. If you have any questions, feel free to IM me [Marcus] via the boards, or e-mail me at vital_fluids@hotmail.com. There's also a chance you might catch me on AIM, my username being FlamesOfLoss.
