De·mai·tre (d-may-truh)
The second largest city of Ontario, Canada.
The first development began with the arrival of the Aveline Fourrures fur trading company of Paris, France. The Cree then began to settle near the trading post, marking the beginning of the Demaitre town site. While originally a French trading post, British officials officially recognized it as a city in 1793. In recent years, the French peoples in the area have declined to near-extinction, as immigrants from around the world, including America, Europe and other parts of Canada, swelled the population.
Demaitre is an important point on the foresting production line, as well as being a thriving production center. There are rich resources of Iron Ore and Copper, though currently there is little move to mine these deposits.
Population: 635,395.
