Basic Registration Questions and Answers

Q1 – Alright, so. I’ve posted stats, and they’ve been approved – why am I still unregistered?

A1 – Only a few of the mods have the ability to register accounts (oddly enough, those few aren’t among the people who are the most active stat-approvers). You’ll just have to be patient on this one; usually I register accounts while doing the monthly member prune. Either way, being unregistered has no impact on your ability to do anything on the boards; it’s more for organizational purposes. happyvamp.gif

Q2 – My first character was –insert coven name or mortal here-, but I was registered as my second (third, fourth, fifth, etc) character, who is a(n) –insert other coven name or mortal here-. Why?

A2 – Chances are your first character hasn’t been approved yet, but your second (third, fourth, fifth, etc) one has, thus you were registered with your second (third, fourth, fifth, etc) one. What member group you are registered under has nothing to do with your ability to do anything on the boards; it’s just for organizational purposes. However, if for some reason you really, really wanted to be registered under the group that your first character is part of, make sure that they’re approved, and then PM me with a request to have your member group switched.

Why the @#$% Am I Banned?
(aka The Angry Person’s Guide to the “Unapproved Stats” Member Group)

Q1 – So, I joined your site, and posted stats, and after RPing for -X amount of time- I suddenly can’t see anything other than the “General” forums and the Character Description forum. What the hell, man?

A1 – Sorry friend, but you’ve been banned. The first thing you need to do is check the News and Updates forum for the most recent Member Prune, which will be pinned to the top of the forum. Open that post and skim down until you spot the section called, “Accounts Suspended Until Stats Have Been Fixed”. If your account is listed there, it should also have a blurb beside it informing you which character you need to fix before the ban will be lifted, and which mod you need to be in contact with once you’re done.

Q2 – I’m not on the list. Did you screw up?

A2 – Nope, still you. If you aren’t on the member prune list, then your stats were bad enough that whatever mod was dealing with them asked that you be banned right away until you fix them. Check your stats page; there will probably be a post from a mod telling you what needs fixing, as well as a post from me (Marcus), notifying you of your ban.

Q3 - @$%^ you. I’m an arrogant little newb and I’m not going to fix them.

A3 – That’s your call. Your ban won’t be lifted unless they are fixed, and if they aren’t fixed by the next member prune, your account will be deleted.

Q4 – Fine. I looked at what your mods said was wrong and fixed some of it, but I don’t agree with some of the changes they want me to make.

A4 – You’re allowed to disagree with requested changes, however you need to have a reason for it. If you’re disagreeing with a change that needs to be made due to conflicts with the history you’ve provided (as in, world history) and the history that the mod knows, you need to cite a source to prove your point, and the mod will do the same. Also, be courteous if you’re disagreeing with a mod—I tend to be a very diplomatic admin, but if I see members mistreating the mod team, that diplomacy floats away and the temptation to delete your account so we don’t have to deal with you anymore may just overwhelm me.

Q5 – Well that seems @#$%ing fair. Your mods are allowed to be jerks, but I’m not?

A5 – Yep. *cough* Generally speaking, the mods are very nice, considerate people, and won’t be a jerk to you at all. However, we are all a little bit jaded when it comes to stat approval, and particularly stupid mistakes can set even the most kind-hearted of us off in a heartbeat. Such mistakes are usually the sort that could have been avoided in the first place if you had either read more about Vital in the “General” forums, or had done proper research for your character’s past.

Grammatical/spelling errors that could have easily been caught by running the post through a spellchecker are common ones for invoking modly wrath as well (if you don’t have a spellchecker, a free one can be found by following the link posted here). With that being said, there are errors that folk make that won’t be caught by technology (“there” when it should be “their”, that sort of thing) which will require a thorough proofreading on your part.

Q6 – Fine, whatever, I fixed everything they asked me to. Now what?

A6 – Notify the mod who is dealing with your stats by PM. If all is well, they’ll approve you, and let me know so that the ban can be lifted, and we can all be happy little people. If there are still problems, the mod will tell you, and you’ll just have to keep tweaking things until the mod finds your stats acceptable.
