Had a phonecall (Well, a couple of phone calls around 1am this morning!!) from Chris Consortium in Sweden.

He said the gig was so good, he was almost in tears.

A nice venue, with a nice mixture of young and old. Plenty of women in the audience too.

Simply fantastic. An accoustic 60 minute set. Ed's guitars sounded great, MES vocal delivery was just outstanding. EB's tunes were also good to hear live and sounded great.

After an intro tape, a very very moving Mettle Claw to start the whole thing off. Then it just got better. Great atmosphere in the club too.

Set list (about 60 minutes)

1) Intro
2) Mettle Claw
3) The Train
4) Real Good Time Together
5) Durasti
6) When We Were Young
7) No Retreat
8) Hustle
9) Transfusion
10) Luddite
11) I Wake Up in The City

Wow! ohmy.gif

I expected very little of this, maybe I'll get tickets for the Salford gig after all.

Was it just the 2 of them on stage or were there other musicians?

Well there is some suprising stuff I haven't mentioned. Go and see them in the UK tour, soothsayers and doubters will be suprised.

Sounds great. Mind you, I was one of those weirdos who thought the CD was good as well.

That's a far better review than i expected, to be honest.

Played the album three times now but still can't get excited about it.

Pondered going to one of the Brighton gigs but made other plans instead.

I could change them i suppose, i don't want to miss out on anything iconoclastic. whistling.gif

Ha ha. Just saying I'd like to read a review by another person, rather than the admirably informed josef being coming to a final decision, before coming to any final decision.

From the number of bizzare phone calls I've had from people who've gone to these recent MES/Blaney gig, I think you would be very unwise not to go to at least one of the Brighton shows.

If it's a small venue, I wouldn't take the chance.

Consortium of York will know the facts though.

Was a fantastic night in Malmö on Friday.

Went there with josef and my friend Jan

Ed on acoustic and Mark on vocals, and us three helping out with stuff like the merch stand.

They started out with Mettle Claw, then fun time together and another one, MES walks off and leaved Ed for 10 minutes? and then comes on again and they do a storming final part. The audience is incredibly enthusiatic and gets them on for an encore of Ex-classmates/I wake up in the city.

Pictures to follow as well.

For the brave of heart there's some dark footage on the Fall news.

What track are they playing in the first clip? I don't know if it's my computer or the crappy telephone lines round here, but when I try playing YouTube clips, they spend more time buffering than playing. After persevereing for a few minuts, I'd still only heard snatches of about the first 30 secs of the track.

Anyway... the bit I heard sounded like an excerpt from Mother Sky. Or is it just me (and my crummy computer).
