Funny gig this, I thought. Nice pint in the Last Drop. Very surreal moment in the venue when the bouncer moved us to the side and Mark E. came through. Then the bouncer came back and thanked us for moving! The gig started thunderously - fantastic versions of Wolf, Wings, 50 etc etc - and ended thunderously with C B Man and an amazing Reformation, which has never been a favourite of mine. Sorta dipped in the middle. Mark looked pissed but seemed lyrically very together, an unusual combo. No encore, 1 hr 20 min set. The oddest thing was waiting outside to leaflet the crowd (desperate marketing concepts volume 67) and none of the buggers coming out. As far as I know, they're all still in there. Possibly at gunpoint.

No,I got out quick to get my car out of the Black Swan car park! I thought the 1st song was pretty dull-a new instrumental which MES mumbled something about long time dead at the end. The rest was fine though and a long set too with MES on throughout apart from making way for the unknown vocalist (still wearing parka) who did Tommy Shooter. Not a bad venue-the stage could have done with being a bit higher. The place holds 400 and there were 300 in, so not a bad turnout. High point for me was CB Man,and did they add a bit on to 50 yo man? I arrived at 9.20 and, with no support band in sight, feared the worst-but Safi didn't appear thank Christ.

A fine gig. Carry Bag definitely the highpoint for me. Several others were a a bit ordinary at first but then really became something.
It appears that racing home to be first to post can cost a man his encore. |

Hey look. I've been trying to upload my photos for the last fucking half an hour but photobucket has changed something and I can't do nowt.
They're really good photos. Can somebody recommend me a decent uploading site that aint gonna fuck me about and a good 100 or so photos I'll put on here. Good ones too. Of the band and the audience and everything. Unfortunately for you, all I can get on here is a photo of my daughter. Infact, I can't even get that on. Bollocks It was a good show. Fuck Photobucket. -------------------- It is idle to think that things in this life will last for ever in one state.

Oh bloody 'ell!! No I wasn't racing home to post, I had to leave cos my mate who had to be up for work was driving and wanted to get off, and he said there wouldn't be an encore because they'd started dismantling the stage. I should have known... this is the Fall! They might do an encore even if there is no stage!

So you missed Karl Burns guesting on drums -------------------- "The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully."

Having fond memories of the last Fibbers gig in York i went to the Dutchess, paid £20 quid (?!?) bought watered down beer (£2 quid more than the pubs down the road) and wandered into something resembling a 1970's odeon cinema/bingohall/youthclub...
The new openening track was really promising, fall sound hitting the spot very nicely, kidult great,wings...well he remembered the words enough to sing a verse or two twice and seemingly not notice...after that it was all a bit sloppy, the band were tight, but MES wasnt...(or maybe he was??) Tommy Shooter 'sung' by a roadie(?) MES impersonator, proving, not that we needed it, that only MES can be MES...but he was somewhere else staring into space, or chewing invisible things. (That £20 ticket started to weigh heavy on mind at this point...) Carry Bag Man....nice to hear it again, but again sloppy MES delivery...at this point i turned to try watching him on the tv screen at the back of the room and it was like watching an over lit fall karaoke as he stumbled around. And white lightening, ....please, ....please, stop playing white bloody lightening! Not the worst fall gig ive been to and certainly not the best. Oh and Mark, get a haircut!... |

Only my third ever Fall gig, but a close second to Holmfirth in 2007. An hour and a half - is that a record? I'd told my son - it was his 1st time - that they'd only be on for an hour if we were lucky.

Do you have a Flickr account, Hex En hour? You can upload the scan there, then copy the adress of the picture (=it shows in the adress of your browser), click "IMG" (second button from the left in your reply panel), put said adress there, ready. Photobucket works the same, I think.
