Some very good news from Beggars. The Fall reissues are on for 2009, starting with The Wonderful And Frightening World Of and This Nation's Saving Grace. They will be released on the Beggars Banquet label, not 4AD (which recently absorbed BB). Beggars are in possession of all the master tapes, contrary to rumours from a year or 2 ago. More details once we get a bit further down the road with tracklistings, etc.

Settle down, everybody, settle the fuck down! My question is this- will the studio cuts from Seminal Live be incorporated into... (Exo ducking a hail of spit and tomato...)

And will there be an alternative Bend Sinister CD that plays 1.5% faster (or slower, whichever one it was)?

Great news - hope they're up to the standards of the Sanctuary releases. Sure they will be, they're in good hands.

Great news! %5E-%5E.gif %5E-%5E.gif %5E-%5E.gif

Decent mastering this time please!

If only they could licence some of the fantastic radio gigs from the period...the Hit The North remixes would be a novel addition too.

Oh and the non Peel radio sessions too, please!

As I've suggested before I reckon the Beeb *must* have stereo tapes of Clitheroe somewhere.

Given the Beeb's enthusiasm for the Fall, I think they should be "gently encouraged" to do the decent thing there and find them.

Anyone know anyone on the Beeb board? biggrin.gif

Seminal Live should be expanded to include the *complete* Vienna Fritz 16.4.88 (the takes of Yes O Yes and Carry Bag Man to name a but a couple were amazing! %5E-%5E.gif )

For, say, The Frenz Experiment, tracks from or the entire recording of
Friday, 13 February 1987 Markthalle, Hamburg should be used.

That recording (from German FM radio) is vastly superior to the BBC Rock City Nottingham recording, which always seemed rather staid to me.

About time. smile.gif

Judging by the appetisers on last year's box and the 50,000 Fall Fans compilation technical quality should be assured. Now we only need interesting liner notes and most of all previously unreleased extras (e.g. radio sessions). rolleyes.gif

The Boston 1988 gig *needs* to go as an extra disc for IAKO too. devil2.gif

This seems as good a place as any to say I'd happily buy a box set of 1985 gigs - the well recorded FM/mixing desks ones mostly, maybe with WOMAD thrown in for good measure as I gather that's a good one and well recorded from what I've heard.

At this rate, the amount of stuff we're demanding could fill another Box Set! laugh.gif

"The Brixie Box" anyone?

"The Brixie Box" anyone?

I was sort of joking about the Adult Net sessions as MES would never allow that (fair enough too they wouldn't belong on a Fall release), but all the same I'd still find something like that interesting [well not a box, but a cd of the early recordings anyway].

As for another box set (or 3) that would be more than welcome biggrin.gif

Yes, we have to keep MES in business, especially since he doesn't get anything from The Fallen book apart from tantrums...

a live 1988 box set wouldn't go amiss either. devil2.gif

those LA Roxy recordings from '86 are very good too, as are the May 87 recordings (if one/both were 'de-whistled' tho).

Good news!

Replica cardboard gatefold sleeves for TNSG and IAKO please biggrin.gif

Oh, and Conway, I do think some of the sleeve notes were a bit small on some of the previous reissues.

I think the 'ask for the earth, and maybe get a molehill' approach could work here.

Apart from these, what are the best recorded gigs (in terms of sound quality - preferably mixing desk or FM) that fans of this period like?

What gigs would *you* like songs picked from to add to CD's?

There's no guarantee it would happen, but if you don't ask, you don't get smile.gif

Methinks a poll beckons...

some favourite gigs -

1985

Clitheroe Castle
Bremen Shlactof
Chicago (at work so tricky to check all date / venue details)

1986
LA Roxy (both gigs)
Town and Country (City Hobgoblins used on Bend Sinister tape from this one)
"Vienna"

1987
Hamburg Markthalle
Astoria X 2

1988

Vienna
Boston
(+ highlights of the 2-3 mixing desk recordings? a bit 'dry' sounding but some good moments)

1989

Munich
Peel's birthday
Philipshalle, Dusseldorf

Any excellent quality gigs missing?
