They also did Latchkey Kid at some point.

It was fun and not too busy when I ambled in a quarter to, like a drowned rat. There were a couple of exemplary onstage MES mixing moments - the first when he cranked up the bass amp and the whole sound lifted 10 feet off the ground and then shot off brilliantly; the second when he turned the guitar right down/off for the climax of 50 Year Old Man, which was a bit disappointing but did make for a nice moment of dub-punk-a-billy.

I also liked the moment when he was poking around an amp with Eleni's mic stand and she just looked at him and smiled as if to say "Oh, you!", awww. wub.gif

Sorry if I spoiled your view BK, I'd never do it at a 'proper' gig, but the Rock & Pop sign was too tempting.

Was there fuck. The league of bald headed men out in force, though strange to see 'em in suits..

Fucking great gig. Have paid money to see shorter Fall gigs with worse sound on many occasions.

Well, I don't like to brag but... it was a good result tonight. Bought MES and minder James from Salford beers in the dreadful gothic theme pub round the corner. Toby, Mark, Steve and self talked footie with MES who even posed for photos. Top bloke.

Post-gig, went back to same pub and had beers talking to the entire group with MES. All of group very down to earth. Tried to avoid being sad fan groupies who bugged them & hopefully this came across. MES signed set lists for Toby & Mark and I got the Thompson 'Users Guide' signed (just finished 'Renegade' & sadly had left in the office: re-reading 'Users Guide' and realise this is far too much info....).

Asked MES why Beggars aren't upgrading their Fall catalogue like the Fontana or Permanent stuff. MES says he's approached them but they're not really engaged and are now based in the US now. Is this right or was he having me or what?

Funny you should say that.

got there in plenty of time, and I was loitering near the 'F' section in the CD racks after picking out the new album.

Three bald blokes came up and looked at the Fall section, saying it was a disgrace or something...I so nearly said "The League Of Bald Headed Men" but wasn't sure they'd take it so kindly biggrin.gif

Storming set anyway, great sound!

I was one of those fuckers with a camera biggrin.gif

Just as before the smoking rule, people smoked at gigs, and now people talk at gigs, smell bad whatever...

*everyone* is capable of doing something to annoy someone, just learn to live with it!

I didn't use flash.

I wish my pics were as close as good / as good as these.

I might load up a couple of the best ones.

Takes ages tho.

So.

I'm taking the audacious of doing something I was thinking of before, sooner than I planned.

In at the deep end.

If you want to see more pics (and if you're on myspace) you can check them here.

My 'singing' [I do still have a cold] won't be to everyone's taste and it's not mandatory that you listen before checking pics.

You would have to befriend the page tho, that's the price to pay.

Believe me, as I'm a shy type who would ideally prefer more privacy it terrifies me a bit but got to push the boat out I guess ohmy.gif

I've put 30 pics here (highligts of about 350 I took. Destroyed the rest devil2.gif )

That was me as I was one of the League! And the fall section in HMV is a fucking disgrace (see my coments in the general chat section). And no, I wouldn't have taken offence as it's just stating the bloody obvious biggrin.gif

Maybe the League Of Bald Headed Men have all been to Primark to smarten themselves up following MES's comments in Renegade. A Primark-Fall sponsorship would be funny.

HMV is a DVD shop now with a sorry legacy music section. Found an early spot in the 'B' aisle gazing surrounded by James Blunt Product....
Singer who came on before had a great voice - shame about the insipid band sound. Fall Gruppe were OK. I thought with MES doing his mic stand waltz for much of the time. What was that mini plastic bullhorn thing with lights on that he couldn't get to work? GREAT renditions of 50 year old and Wolf Kidult. The back screen projection was a lot of fun too.

Well that was ace. I was also one of the league of bald-headed men somewhat nonplussed by the Fall section (also a bit miffed they'd cordoned off the vinyl section), so I sloped off for a swift pint down the Coach & Horses. Came back and had to stand at the side of the stage in the 'Metal' section, surveying a whole aisle of CDs by bands I never knew existed. Good view of the stage and the poor, put-upon soundman, though.

Gruppe on stage not too late (7.15?) rattled their way through at a decent lick, finished on Pacifying Joint, IIRC, and buggered off at around 7.45 with no chance of an encore.

Could have sworn I saw that Peter Serafinowicz geezer from Spaced/Shaun of the Dead, etc.

Like someone else said, I've paid good money to see shorter, less adept sets, so this was a pleasant and refreshing surprise.

Re: not many people buying Fall product... well, yeah, me included. I'd rather give Action Records my money, ta very much. Plus, I'd assume most people at the gig already had what HMV had to offer, so it's not surprising really.

Yeah it was him, Frank Skinner also there (he's almost an ever present this season).

I enjoyed this immensely, especially the bit during 50 Year Old man when Mark turned off Pete's amp but couldn't work out how to switch it back on despite numerous attempts. Credit to Pete who ploughed on silently, even using his tremolo arm when there was patently no point.

Thirty five or so minutes of good, rousing stuff. I thought it was a great version of Wings although the perenniel inclusion of Pacifying Joint is becoming an irritant.

Nice to see some familiar faces once again, albeit briefly, and thanks to New Profile Razor Unit for a very enjoyable few pints afterwards.

Apart from Chelsea winning, a good night.

Hi Stranger

That was me, The Man Whose Gut Expanded and Hanley Played A Fender P. You should've said hello, we don't bite.

Good gig, I thought. As Tom says, I've paid money for worse in the past.

Will do next time.

I'd actually seen another bald bloke standing in the aisle next to me and wondered whether it was Hanley played.

A shame I didn't go to the pub afterwards where someone met the band (inc MES)...I wouldn't have wanted to try to chat to him much but it would have been nice to get the book and CD signed.

I did also get the Mama's and Papa's expanded doc DVD I'd wanted for ages smile.gif

The DVD section had a Janis Joplin compilation - semi bootleg? - that contained loads of live performances. It was twenty quid tho, so I might try shopping around on the net.

Loved the performance, couldn't help smiling and dancing...shame the pics didn't capture as much as I expected, but I got some good ones.

I will load up a couple here some point, just takes ages faffing around with photobucket and our slow net connection here (and pc problems at home...took me til 2am after my music event loading them up, selecting and resizing them...that's why i've left them on my myspace not as some blatant plug ohdear.gif )

This new line-up has shaped up brilliantly.

I'd walked out of the Islington gig last summer but as always, things have turned around.

Heh heh. I had a great view of that from where I was standing. He just turned everything right down, then when he tried to turn it back up, the only thing he didn't touch was the volume knob. Valiant soldiering on from Pete, though.
