utterly utterly brilliant!
MES sauntered on stage for a brief appearance, it was great, but so was Mouse on Mars! LOVED them! applaud.gif

Yes, what time did they appear on stage Black Dog? Did they play all the album tracks? Was there any new stuff? Of course you were probably a little merry when you posted and forgot some of the details wink.gif beer.gif

They came on just after nine, and it was all over about 60 minutes later. They did all the noisy stuff from the album, all of which was significantly re-arranged/mixed to make it very different from the album, but still recognizable - and it was very loud; some of the bass notes made my trousers flap! The Rhinohead was the highlight for me.

I didn't have a great view of the stage, but it looked like MES either did the second half from a crouching position, or was round the back somewhere. There were no vocals at all for the one encore they did.

It was busier than I expected, but then a mate who has a mate who works there told me that it has been moved from a bigger room to one of the smaller ones (The Arches has lots of rooms).

We were down the front, waving at Elena.

Mark was only onstage for a few minutes, then went backstage with the mic. I think the problem was he didn't know the lyrics, and went backstage so he could read them off his notes. I think the MoM blokes were pissed off at him for not coming out for the encore, get the feeling it was a truncated set. I loved it all the same, proper techno noise. I've been listening to a lot of Mouse On Mars lately anyway, I'd definitely go to another of their shows.

Mark's never less than 100% Mark, is he?

ok, time for a little sober reflection.
I have no idea what was played apart from the hits (Fliedermaus/Rhinohead) which were excellent of course. They came on about 9 and were off by about 10.
MES made only fleeting appearances and read his lines from off-stage or somewhere in the shadows. He clearly did not want to take centre-stage and although his appearances may have seemed perfunctory to some (some Fall fans booed at the end and bemoaned his transitory presence) I thought it was just about right. This seemed to me to be a cutting-edge young outfit and he didn't want to be the embarrassing Dad at a wedding. He remained satisfyingly aloof throughout.
As for Mouse on Mars, I cannot speak highly enough of them. They were immense. Ear-damagingly loud (thats how the album should be heard) I found them compelling, mesmeric and succulent.
Oh and the Arches staff were so friendly. One young lad took my cd cover backstage and returned with the 3 pictures on the cover signed (MES even put a kiss!) and the MOM guys had drawn specs and tattoos on their photos!
Great evening. applaud.gif

I overheard a few people asking for their money back. Fuck knows why, I thought it was brilliant.

Pissed myself laughing at MES singing from behind the door. Witnessing that was well worth £15 a ticket.

I've put a recording up on Dime:
http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=163791

Tracklisting something like this:

01 Speech Contamination/German fear of Osterreich
02 The Rhinohead
03 ?
04 Fledermaus cant get it
05 Family Feud (?) "I am the Great MES"
06 Serious Brainskin (?) (MES offstage)
07 Slow down Ronnie
------------------------------------------------------
08 - -encore call--"Get oot here ya cunt!"
09 ?
10 --Crowd--"Mark E Smith, Wank Wank Wank"--

Onstage about 9.15, me in MacSorleys for 10.15.
Seemed more of a Fall crowd than Mouse on Mars fans.
Enjoyably shambolic whilst MES onstage. Much shuffling of lyric sheets, playing with mics etc, but disappearing act was frustrating.

Thought it was a pretty decent gig all round really. I think those Fall fans booing seemed to forget one of the reasons we worship this man is for the sheer unpredictability and the don't give a fuck attitude. I thought the band and MES sounded more cohesive once he was singing from behind the door oddly enough & Mouse on Mars did a good enough jb entertaining me regardless, not even a big dance music fan.

I agree that Mark looked maybe a bit daft in front of MoM and maybe wandered off leaving them to it. I think the flat atmosphere early on will have done no favours either though.

Venue was great, basically unerneath the railway with minimal ffort put in.

Sound was a bit too loud though, not in me being an old man way, me being in a this venue can't handle music this loud kind of way.

Not sure it was worth £15, but glad I was there. By God it was loud so DJBawbag's recording should be sound (I was standing next to him and could hear fine, in fact, you'll probably hear the odd stupid remark from me. Sorry). Maybe not enough of Mark E. but let's face it, what did we expect from a German techno duo with Mr Smith singing over bass that shook yer spleen? Mark struggling to read the lyrics was hilarious, I thought he looked like a man trying to get the focus right without his 'reading glasses'. Actually, let me take the first bit back, it probably was worth the cash.

MOM obviously need more "punters" through the door!
It's all a joke.
