What's I am Me Mark like?

Was there a bad atmosphere or something?

No, MES was in very high spirits. Not sure what happened

I am me mark is pretty basic at the moment, instrumental with "we are the fall" over the top of it, sounded good though applaud.gif

I fully enjoyed this gig! Shame they walked off early would have been a lovely finsh to a day if they played some of the songs at the end. The vice crowd seemed to enjoy there set all jumping about throwing bottles getting the security fired up and so on.

Thanks Michael for helping us get around the countryside we would probably still be looking for the b&b at this point otherwise.

After the very brief, aborted, White Lightning, they would (might wink.gif ) have played:-

Systematic Abuse;
Strange Town; and
Blindness.

It is certainly true that the group, including Mark, seemed to be in quie good spirits. They are getting a fairly good dynamic going it seems.

The first song, I Am Me, Mark, seems to be fairly standard Fall intro fare with the opening lines being "Good Evening we are The Fall /From the long, long days of the Cheshire Cheese", and then there was a line about "Half-educated imaginiations", which was mildly ironic considering the locale. laugh.gif

A particularly funny highlight occurred when the photographer, who was onstage at the beginning of their set, tried to take a photograph accross the front of Pete Greenway. Just as he was about to do so, Mark grabbed his arm and gently ushered him in to jumping off the stage. He landed on his feet, but looked a bit disgruntled, and it served him right for invading Fallspace. Cheeky get. laugh.gif

It was a great pleasure again, though, to make the acquaintance of Toby, Sam, and, later on in proceedings, Steve Hamilton. smile.gif

I'm not sure if it was so much a walk-off as just them running out of time. Does anyone else find that a Fall gig without Blindness feels slightly incomplete nowadays?

Some more highlights:
-Elani coming on dancing
-MES hugging (and trying to kiss?!) the baffled-looking DJ over the decks during I've Been Duped
-An almost dub version of Sparta FC, after a great bit of knob-twiddling

I was generally a bit disappointed by the set though, and the festival itself. Anyone else have an absolute nightmare finding it? It took me an hour and I had a local driving me. The cashpoints and foodstalls got lost too.

Nah i reccon they could of stayed on for the whole set if they wanted, knowing they were seccond headliners and the bands wernt on time so it dident really matter!

I agree with almost all of that.

The early ending may have been them running out of time. The more I've thought about in retrospect, particularly with them moving up the running order slightly, makes me think that they didn't want to hang around. Maybe they had to get the van back? laugh.gif

However, each and every song they played did seem to be a long version. If they'd cut each song a bit shorter we might have got one or two more, however, most of the songs were very well played so I've no complaints.

The location was difficult to find. I even know someone who comes from that area, and they agree that it is a devil of a place to find.

Eh? ohmy.gif laugh.gif

I've done a review for the Pseud Mag, here's a couple of points from it:

Out of a couple of thousand people on the site, there were a couple of hundred watching The Fall and a couple of dozen moshers. All packed into a fairly small tent.

I made a point of asking a few people what they thought of The Fall. Wide variety of opinions but if you had to sum it up in one sentence it would probably be something like: “Good group – but they’re a bit hit or miss aren’t they?”

This gig was more of a hit than a miss. A couple of people said it wasn’t as good as some of the recent gigs in London, but got a good reaction from the crowd. I'm probably biased, but I thought The Fall had a lot more energy than most of the other acts there.

Very positive start with a new tune I’d not heard before. It’s got no lyrics and is still a work in progress, but the riff was pretty catchy and upbeat. Good opener, it’s definitely got potential.

No there were free buses between the site and Wymondham station. I didn't realise at first, when I got off the train I went into the town and had something to eat. Then I walked the three miles to the site, it was fairly easy to find I thought. I got the free bus back the next morning cos I was hanging. .
