it says "featuring music video footage from artists who appeared at the festivals" which says to mean that this is not actualling footage from the festivals but just clips of bands who played at the festivals.

I spent too much money on a batch of Ozit's Beefheart CDs, they are almost all crap. Poor quality, bad edits, inaccurate song titles, and (not that I'm too bothered about this) 100% unofficial.
They are still churning them out. At full price, too. Avoid like the plague. This is why soulseek was invented. Possibly. |

There is a new Beefheart CD coming out on Ozit - Bickershaw Festival - one that has been doing the rounds on the trader networks for 30 years. We can dream that it might be a previously unheard crystal clear sound desk mix..or will it just be mastered from a 3rd gen cassette?
Also they've "licensed" the Martin Hannet Personal Mixes Joy Division CD that has just come out. A load of ambient noise and snippets of conversation from the studio, plus a batch of rough mixes that differ only *slightly* from the official releases. I just don't know how they get away with it as a supposed legitimate concern |

I was very excited about this until I read everybody's comments. I'm still quite excited and will be up for buying it. I can't see the quality being all that spectacular because the equipment at the time will have been fairly rudimentary.
And those operating it will have been fairly wrecked. -------------------- I stand on one leg at the top of the street.

I repeat - it does not say it was actually filmed there, just video's from bands who have played there. Could be anything.

I've just had an email from Ozit to "reassure people on your discussion group":
The 20 minute film interview with Mark E Smith about festivals and Deeply Vale was filmed by a pro TV camera crew for this DVD in 2004. There is actual 1979 audience video clip of the audience listening to the Fall at the festival, other rare film footage of the Fall around that time and a short intro from Marc Riley, filmed in 2004. Mark E Smith has a particular affinity with this event, as will be seen in his interview. It is where he first met Grant Showbiz, who also appears in this film. -------------------- New members - please read the "terms of use" of the forum, see link at top left of page. yup - that's about right - from that description it could just be some audience shots with their terrible Deeply Vale bootleg dubbed over the top. Who would know (or care)

I think Ozit have done a very good job here of reassuring us that this release will be down to their usual incredibly low standards. Thanks, Ozit, for removing any doubt from our minds! How do these people sleep at night? |

That's all I can say really. "There is actual 1979 audience video clip of the audience listening to the Fall at the festival" Classic. Makes Voiceprint look like a good company. -------------------- People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people.

I accidentally left my camcorder on at the weekend, all you can see is the floor but at one point I enter the room (I am not visible, apart from a bare foot) and can be heard humming the intro to Athlete Cured for 7 seconds.
This will be released by Oshit as part of a 4-DVD box set entitled 'The Fall: A Video History'. No other Fall music will be included, in fact no other Fall content of any sort, but this clip does feature audible evidence of someone deriving enjoyment from the band's music and therefore by itself justifies the £44.99 price tag. |

I should say, I have no problem with them releasing a DVD doc on the DV Festival, if they are honest about what is on there. But clearly they are misleading with the artwork and tracklisting. -------------------- People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people.

I was at Deeply Vale for 3 years running (78,79,80) and it would be interesting to see a documentary about it. I wouldn't get it for The Fall content, though.

You are a right load of whingeing buggers...nobody forces you to buy it.
I think it a bit of fun and evocative of the times, to be honest. |

A bit of fun that will cost over £30 though for a few mins of (non-)Fall fun ... Of course nobody forces us to buy it, but the Fall 'content' is on there because the record company KNOWS that collectors of a particular band are wont to buy ANYTHING associated with their heroes. Even film of people WATCHING the Fall - I can't even believe we're discussing such a preposterous item! BUT I think this time the long-suffering Fall fan may have been pushed too far ... after years of worthless crud on Receiver, Ozit and Voiceprint, even obsessive nerds like me have called it a day. I have bought everything imaginable by the Fall but when Voiceprint start releasing the soundtracks to already available AWFUL dvds ... Fontana give us essentially worthless reissues ... Sanctuary repackage stuff that most people here already have ten times over OR can get easily elsewhere from fellow collectors ... I mean, there's a limit even to MY obsessiveness, and I reckon that this really will be the final straw for a lot of people. It's alright for people who might get free copies or whatever to intimate this is an okay product, but for those of us in the real world, this is just adding insult to injury. Whingeing? If legitimate complaints are whingeing, you're spot on. Now if someone actually gives us something that is completely comprised of previously unreleased stuff - and I DON'T mean barely different 'alternate' mixes or whatever - at a decent price then maybe we'll all join hands and sing the praises of those responsible. Until then, if this is the state of things, then expect a LOT of whingeing! |

I was only there one year (1979, I think), but as Mr Middles has pointed out, I think that this will be very evocative. I'm jast as excited about seeing Here and Now as The Fall to be honest. It was a good place to be, There and Then. My only concern is how much they will be charging for me to indulge in a little nostalgia. -------------------- I stand on one leg at the top of the street.
