So far, I think the best fanfic I've ever encountered on the Internet is located at this site: http://www.in-con.com/vmeredith/fanfiction.html.

All of it is Cardassian-focused, and particularly deals with Damar. I have not read all of the stories (do pay attention to the ratings to decide what you would and would not like to read), but all of the ones by Victoria Meredith are excellent. They're internally consistent (you get to watch the progression of Damar's character very clearly), and also are almost entirely free of grammar and spelling errors. My favorite stories are "An Honorable Contest" (rated PG-13), and "Transcending Folly" (also PG-13).

"An Honorable Contest" imagines what would've happened if Damar and Worf had got into a drinking contest. The dialogue is so hilarious that it just about had me rolling on the floor! It made me stay up until 2:30 in the morning reading...it was just THAT good.

"Transcending Folly" offers insight into the Cardassian psyche through the eyes of one of Legate Damar's assistants, who Ms. Meredith names Glinn Edo Quare. This story was a really impressive read, and a glowing example of what fanfic can be.

You'd also do well to read the analyses she's written in the Articles section of her site--they are well thought out and show a high degree of insight into Star Trek, and Deep Space Nine in particular.

An honorable mention also goes to the Star Trek: The Final Frontier series, located at http://www.sttff.org.

What amazes me is the intricacy of the story this guy has come up with, as well as the details in all of the support materials, like the star maps and ship models.

Its only weak points are in the repeated misuses of certain words that I see over and over. But when it comes to plot, and being able to write interesting characters (one of my favorites being Talyere Rosat) and witty dialogue, he does a good job.

Has anybody got an opinion on this? Or do you have any other good fanfic to recommend?

Alternative Voyages at http://dakota4747.tripod.com/altvoy/altvoyind.html . It is a work in progress so you need to check back every so often to see if it's been updated. It's very good.

Wow...that's very kind. smile.gif

I still think the stuff I pointed out in my post is better, especially the Damar stuff (at least, what I wanted to read of it).
