Its not screening here in australia yet (I think they are pushing the last season 1 episodes of SG-1 through first seen as they have it on 2 nights a week at the moment) I was just curious though as to the views of those who have seen it so far, is it worth trying to get into? Could someone maybe give a general description as to what its about/how its going etc?

As much as I hate to admit it, I watch it every Friday. Maybe not so much not that Enterprise is starting up (and is on the same night) but it's actually a pretty good show.

Watch it too. Mondays on the movie network (no where else in canada yet). It's good. Definatly improving as it goes. the last 2 episodes were excellent. Although I don't think they could surpass SG1.

The premise is basically the same. You have a team of 4 that travel through the gate to other planets. You ahve your cocky yet really scienticfically clueless leader (shepard), you very intellegent scientist who in this case is so annoying it's scary (McKay), A local from the Pagasus galaxy who shows them around (I forget her name) and the 4th member is the token black guy, who although inocent, enough really has no purpose at this point but but to fill out the team. The Leader of the whole base is not military shes a scientist her self. I think she's a complete puch over for a commander but whatever.

The Base is set up on the home of the Ancients (the powerful race that built the SGs) which also happens to be the mythical city ot Altantis where the Ancients took their last stand against the Wariths before coming to out world. The Atlantis gate is the only one capable of dailing earth however because of severe power shottages there is no way to get to the SGC and no way for SGC to get there. They've only explored a fraction of the city at the moment so that could provide some good episodes (you know new hidden technowlogies and such).

The villans are called the wraith and although they look a little like fish I'd say they are more scary than the go'uld (sp). They are hard to kill because they heal to fast and they feed on human life (suck it right out of you with their hand)

Lets see... the things that really set it apart would probably be the weapons and vihicles (Sp). They SG team is back to using just regular guns (no more zats sad.gif ) And instead of doing everything on foot they now have the "puddle jumpers" Shuttles basically. The Atlantis base had a whole bunch of them in storage so now the missions can extend to space, further around planets, and have more fighter battles.

There are only a few people who can control some of the ancients stuff naturally (Shepard being one of them) because of some ancient gene...

That's all that comes to mind really. To tell the truth I think the best advice would be to watch a few episodes your self to see if "you" like it because just hearing abuot it isn't the same in my book.

I dunno, hearing about it has actually got my attention so far at least, ill definatly give it a trial run! To be honest i was loosing interest in SG-1 a bit, though thats mostly because I missed a bunch of episodes so i got a bit behind in what was happening and found it difficult to pick up again.

I still love SG1 but SGA is getting soooooo very good. They had their first cliff hanger and I'm dying to know what happens... everything looks so bleak! unsure.gif

Never judge a TV show by the first episodes wink.gif actually in a lot of cases even by the first season.. thats usually my general rule is to give shows untill season 2 and then make up my mind if its gunna be good or not, a lot of shows are just introducing characters and such in the first season so dont always take off straight away

Yeah i suppose you right. It's this instant gratification world we live in I tell you.... where shows have to be good from day one if they don't want to be cancel by episode 10 laugh.gif tongue.gif

Yep sad.gif just like they almost canceled tru calling from season 1.. lucky it got another season now though.. They expect a new show to have mass ratings from day one these days.. surely they realise some of the best shows that have been on TV in the past didnt take off untill they'd been around for a bit?
Im surprised people arent put off even watching the first season of a show now for fear of getting into the show just to have it canned on them at the end of the season.

Some of the best shows gte canceled soon. Firefly was awsome but it was canned. BOP was way better than Smallvile and it got canned, Ent Almost got canned (fortunatly for it, it was riding on a preciously proven formula). there are tons of examples really. All people want now a days is mindless TV and reality TV which couldn't be further from reality if it tried.

I know in aust tv news group many of the posters are totally sick of reality TV (myself included) and would rather see some decent programs get on TV again

Well good luck with that. THe morons that seem to both make and watch most of the TV in world would rather make money than good TV.
