Walking the streets, the rest of the world a blur.
She steps into the picture,
A scarlet vision of clarity among
the murky doldrums hovering behind her.
I barely chance a glance,
fearing my eyes may set fire
from her combustible beauty.
She passes me, throwing a sideways glance
in my direction.
My heart locks up--
the world is a blur, behind a screen.
It no longer matters, though.
I am safe and complete with a focus now.
The ecstasy is distracting--
she has stepped back into the hazy shadows,
and I am once again alone.
I could look back, trying to peer through that screen
and pretending that I see her
among the ill-defined shapes ambling past.
I could fool myself
into thinking that she still shares my isolation.
. . . . . . . .
I keep walking
and the estranging blur moves with me.
