Hello everyone, and welcome to this week’s edition of “Better know a power level.” In this episode we will be discussing power levels in unaligned members, and in faction aligned members.
Up to this point, any character who remained unaligned did not have a specific rank structure to follow, and how much power a character had was rather dubious. In an effort to reduce confusion and hopefully make RPing easier for all, I have designed a rank system for unaligned members. There are five levels of power to those characters who choose not to align with a faction.
Unknown - This is the rank at which all characters start. You are, for all intensive purposes, "unknown" to the other members of the Realm, as you have no history here, nor have you committed any acts which would cause your name to be circulated amongst the Realm inhabitants.
Rumored - This is the second rank level. People have heard of you or your deeds, and rumors are beginning to circulate amongst the common folk. To reach this rank, you must meet the following requirements:
- A minimum of 25 posts (Posts must be of a length and quality consistent with ROM's advanced RP standards)
- Your account must be at least one month old
- Your RPs to this date must have depth and show either a sustained level of what we consider "advanced" on ROM, or have shown considerable improvement if your first RPs were not up to our normal standards.
- You must be recommended by a member of higher rank.
Familiar - This is the third rank level. Your face is a familiar site in the towns and lands of the Realm, and people know you for who you are and what you do. People feel comfortable interacting with you. To reach this rank, you must meet the following requirements:
- A minimum of 50 posts
- Your account must be at least 2 months old
- Your RPs to this date must have depth and show either a sustained level of what we consider "advanced" on ROM, or have shown considerable improvement if your first RPs were not up to our normal standards.
- You must be recommended by a member of higher rank.
Reputed - This is the fourth rank level. Word of your actions have reached the far corners of the Realm, and it is even likely some of the higher ranking faction members will have heard of you. The common folk and townspeople all know of you. To reach this rank, you must meet the following requirements:
- A minimum of 75 posts (Posts must be of a length and quality consistent with ROM's advanced RP standards)
- Your account must be at least 3 months old
- Your RPs to this date must have depth and show either a sustained level of what we consider "advanced" on ROM, or have shown considerable improvement if your first RPs were not up to our normal standards.
- You must be recommended by a member of higher rank.
Hero/Heroine - This is the fifth and highest rank an unaligned character can achieve. This rank is seldom given, as it requires much more than the other ranks to achieve. Once your character has reached this rank, your name is known throughout the Realm and associated with your Heroic deeds. Most people would recognize you in a crowd, and children use your name in their games of war and peace. To achieve this rank, you must meet the following requirements:
- A minimum of 150 posts (Posts must be of a length and quality consistent with ROM's advanced RP standards)
- Your account must be at least 6 months old
- Your RPs to this date must have depth and show either a sustained level of what we consider "advanced" on ROM, or have shown considerable improvement if your first RPs were not up to our normal standards.
- You must be the major character in and finish a RP in which your character does one of the following: performs a heroic deed which saves the lives of Realm inhabitants (not NPCs, actual characters); performs a deed which restores or keeps the balance of peace in the Realm as part of a major Realm plot; placing your character in immediate danger (and accepting the possibility your character could die) to save innocent lives; Standing up for your characters beliefs in a situation where it could prove deadly or extremely dangerous; standing up for another neutral character of importance to your character in a crucial RP. Other situations will be evaluated on a per character basis.
- You must be recommended by a member of higher rank.
A note on recommendations:Anyone who is a higher rank than you can recommend you for a rank advancement. This means if you are Unknown, and you RP with someone who is Rumored, they can recommend you for advancement. You may PM your recommendation to any Global Moderator or Admin for review and decision.

The new power levels within the factions are actually an old system we used to follow which we are re-implementing. There are five levels of power within the factions, the same on both sides.
Apprentice - This is the basic level of power found within the factions. When you join a faction, this is the level you will start at. Only through training can you advance to the next level. There are no specific requirements for advancement, as that determination is made by higher ranking people within your guild. They can recommend a character for advancement and only Grand Masters or High Lords/Ladies can make that decision.
Journeyman - This is the second level of power within the factions. If you have reached this level you have trained with Master(s) or Grand Master(s) and they have approved your skills and spells to a higher level of control and competency. You gain more power or control with this level, but you are still an apprentice of types. There are no specific requirements for advancement, as that determination is made by higher ranking people within your guild. They can recommend a character for advancement and only Grand Masters or High Lords/Ladies can make that decision.
Master - This is the third level of power within the factions. If you have reached this level you have trained with Grand Master(s) and they have approved your skills and spells to a higher level of control and competency. You gain more power or control with this level, and you are very adept in your spell casting or combat. There are no specific requirements for advancement, as that determination is made by a Grandmaster within your guild. They can recommend a character for advancement and only the High Lords/Ladies can make that decision.
Grand Master - This is the fourth level of power within the factions. If you have reached this level you have trained with the High Lord or Lady of your faction and they have approved your skills and spells to a higher level of control and competency. You gain more power or control with this level, and your skills are now at a level which few can achieve. Grand Masters are also teachers and will assist in the education of lower level faction members in whatever area the Grand Master is proficient in.
High Lord/Lady - This is the fifth and highest level of power within the factions. If you have reached this level, you have risen above all other faction members and reached a skill level which is near perfection. High Lords/Ladies cannot be beaten in combat, nor can their spells be deflected. High Lords/Ladies are usually skilled in a wide range of combat and spell casting areas, but specialize in one or two main skills.

Now that I have explained the power levels, I will explain how they relate to one another, so you know what your power level is in relation to someone you come up against that is faction aligned or not. These relationships are a general rule of thumb to go by for combat or other situations where power levels come into play.
Unknown = Less powerful than everyone
Rumored = More powerful than Unknown, equally powerful as any new, untrained, faction Apprentice, less powerful than any trained faction Apprentice
Familiar = More powerful than Rumored, equally powerful as any faction Apprentice, less powerful than any faction Journeyman
Reputed = More powerful than Familiar, equally powerful as any faction Journeyman, less powerful than any faction Master
Hero/Heroine = More powerful than Reputed, equally powerful as any faction Master, less powerful than any faction Grand Master

A note on Illusion, King of Thieves and his Bandit followers:
Illusion is a special case, as he is "The King of Thieves" on ROM. Illusion heads a small band of rouge thieves. Illusion's power is equal to that of a Hero/Heroine.
Illusion's band of rogue thieves are referred to as "bandits." They follow the same basic power system as the unaligned, with Illusion determining when they advance in level. Since their member group icon does not specify their power level, their characters will have a member title right above the group icon letting you know which power level they are at.
