Hi there, I really hope someone can help on this issue because it is driving me insane.

I use a G4 dual 1ghz for music production and I have just run out of hard drive space... I really can't delete/back anything up either, so I NEED a new storage drive. Problem is it needs to have very fast seek times to be any use to me, ie a 10000rpm drive and at least 73 gig... ie not one of these poncey external firewire drives which might look nice but are slow. (I only have Firewire 400 on my G4) My current drive is an Ultra160 SCSI Seagate Cheetah. I have a dual channel controller card and would happily just buy another Ultra160 drive, but it appears they've stopped making them, there are only Ultra320's available now. However I was also told that SCSI is being phased and that the new Serial ATA interface is the way of the future... I am prepared to buy another controller card and a new hard drive, but I cannot ANYWHERE find a SATA PCI controller card that is Mac compatiable. Whenever I look at the specs of the product, Windows operating systems are usually mentioned exclusively, and occasionally they mention Linux or Unix, or some other os's I've never even heard of.

SO, the question is, where (if at all) can I buy a Serial ATA PCI controller card which is Mac compatiable? One thing that occurred to me is that OSX is based on Unix, right? Does that mean that a card which is Unix compatiable will be OSX compatiable? Will I need to install drivers for a controller card like this? Any help or advice on this matter would be enormously appreciated.

Many thanks, Jon.
