I have a foreign movie, in .avi file format, and the subtitles for the movie, in .srt file format. I tried following some guide online on how to hardcode the subtitles into the .avi file, but when it was all converted and crap, there was like... a five second audio lag (hard to tell when it's a French movie) or so.

Does anyone here know any solutions, or good ways of getting the video and subtitle file into one .avi file?

You could use a media player like VLC or Media Player Classic to put the subs in on the fly, no need to reencode the video. So long as you've got your codec packs up to date CCCP is a good pack.

Liiiittle too late.

But I was trying to convert a french movie, in .avi format, to a format that will read on most older DVD players while still having subtitles since I don't speak french nor does the friend I was sending it too.

But again, too late.
