This thing sounds like it's gonna be awesome. I'd like to attend it even if it's not for JClub happy.gif, but I don't know if we can get enough transportation to do that. Greyhound bus! :-P

this is also a chance to network with another Japanese organization.

Subject: UIUC Japan Night Invitation

To all presidents of Japan/International student organizations,

On behalf of the Japan Intercultural Network, better known as J-Net, which
is a registered student organization of the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), we would like to invite you and your members to a
never before seen spectacle here in our humble town of Urbana.

J-Net is coordinating an anticipated Japan Night, co-sponsored
by the Illini Union Board of UIUC, displaying various traditional, cultural
and modern performances originating from Japan, which will be performed by
the very students of the university and several community members who share
the same interest for Japanese fine arts. This event is conjunction with the
healthy relationship between the United States and Japan, marking its 150th
commemorative year.

Details of the evening event is as follows:

Date: Saturday, May 3rd 2003

Time: Doors Open at 6pm

Show begins at 6:30pm

Venue: Foellinger Auditorium, 709 S.

Mathews Ave, UIUC

Admission: $7 general public

$4 groups of 20+

$3 for school children
(K-High)

On this special night, we are anticipating a Japanese
traditional drum performance by Osuwa Taiko, a renowned group from the
Washington University at St. Louis. Taiko drums are special giant drums,
which originates from Japan. The drum show is carried out by a bunch of
about 15 people who plays the giant drums accompanied by smaller ones in a
very entertaining fashion, playing acrobatically and rhythmically to a
drumbeat. More information on them can be found here:
<http://stlouis.osuwa.taiko.cc/> http://stlouis.osuwa.taiko.cc/

The date actually carries a special meaning in Japan as children
celebrate Children's Day. A few events (especially for children) are also
made available earlier in the day at the Japan House of UIUC. Details of
those events can be found at the following link:

We hope to see you at the auditorium that evening and hopefully
be able to experience the grand and wonderful culture from Japan in a brief
two-hour period. Tickets may be purchased directly from the Assembly Hall
Box Office or the Illini Union's or by requesting directly through Ai Manabe
at <mailto:uiucjapannight@yahoo.com> uiucjapannight@yahoo.com , with the
number of tickets requested. We will try to accommodate group seating (if
requested).

For more information on the event and our network, please visit

auditorium's location can be found here:

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us at

Hope to see you there!

Yours sincerely,

Ai Manabe

Japan Night Coordinator,

JClub ended up not going since going there would be quite a costly venture ($46 for bus fare). from what i heard in J-Net forums tho, was that it was awesome.

i'm going to close this topic since the event has passed.
