I don't know why, but I didn't miss Mary that much. Maybe because I always waited for a Mary-Gaia scene where Mary would help Gaia with all of her Sam problems and get the two of them together while kicking Heather to the curb... (that scene at the club with Sam and Heather kicking Gaia out of that table comes close, but it wasn't enough).

I thought that George's death was probably the saddest. He was aging as an agent, got played by his own wife, turned on Tom to join Loki--you can't help but feel sorry for what the ghostwriters did to George. I still don't believe that he would've turned on Tom, though.

And as for Katia's death? Without that, we wouldn't have had Gaia and Tom in their respective places in life.

Yes, thats true. I think i would have been more moved by Katia's death if Before Gaia was the first book. Since we knew she was dead all the way along, it didnt make her death heartbreaking, it just made us feel sorry for Gaia.
