Bored, bored, bored. Adrien slumped across the horizontal surface of the tavern table. Bored, bored, bored, bored, bored. There was nothing to do. No one to talk to. And no one to beat up. The last two were probably the worst. Everyone was behaving well tonight at the Roaring Bear Tavern, and so Adrien was not needed.

Maybe I should go take Wispa for a ride. He hadn't been riding in about a week. She probably missed him, that spoiled little brat of a horse. Adrien dug into a deepening rut on the table with his dagger. But that would mean moving... That left riding out. Somehow the man just wanted excitment to come to him.

Sprawling even farther out on the table, Adrien took a long pull at his beer then laid his head down. Perhaps someone will come and talk...

Sand melts in pools of the sky
Darkness lays her crimson cloak
Your lamps will call, call me home

Appoline walked into the tavern. She didn't go into taverns, unless she was in a spontaneous state of mind or just bored. At taverns one could always find something to do, be it getting in a fight, or drinking to a stupor.

The tavern looked rather peaceful tonight compared to the other times Appoline had been there. Appoline sighed, saddened that nothing out of the ordinary seemed to be going on.

Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed a stranger laying his head on a table. Hmm, he looks as bored as I am. Either that, or he's got a nasty hangover "Hello," she said, sitting down across from him, "are you alright?"

"Alright, mi'lady?" Adrien glanced up at the beauty above him. "Yes, I believe I am alright. May I buy you a drink?" He motioned to the chair opposite his own across the table and snagged a serving girl by the elbow. After asking for another beer, he straightened up and watched Appoline.

She was pretty, that's for sure. Her eyes caught and held him. It was a moment before he could speak.

"So what's a girl like you doing in a tavern? You should be warming my bed instead of drinking!" Adrien chuckled groggily and drained the last drops of liquid from his mug. Things were getting foggy, and thinking was getting harder to do...

"You've drank quite a lot, haven't you?" Appoline commented, noticing that he seemd groggy. She didn't want to offend him in any way, so she didn't say anything more about it. "I came here because I was bored. Although this place doesn't seem quite interesting at the moment, to tell the truth."

She smiled warmly and extended her hand across the table for him to shake. "I'm Appoline." She said. "And who are you?"

"Hmm? Adrien," he was able to gather the wits to grasp Appoline's hand in greeting. "Though you may call me... lover." He gurgled again with the joy of one smothered by alcohol.

Sighing, then taking another drink, Adrien continued, "Yes, I agree. There's n-nothing to do... really, there should be a fight of some sort going on." As if to prove his point, he waved his hand at the oddly quiet bunch sitting randomly in the tavern. "I'm the b-b-b-person who throws the... people out, you know."

Appoline nodded her head. "Yoiu're the bouncer?" She said, giving him the word he was searching for. She wasn't quite sure what to think of Adrien. She did think he was rather forward, but he was drunk after all.

So," she said, trying to begin a conversation, "are you from Gondor? Or some place else?" She had never been outside of her country, and the outside world intrigued her.

"Aye, bouncer! That's me!" Setting down his empty mug, Adrien remarked foggily to himself that he needed to stop drinking for the moment. It wasn't helping his situation one bit, and even drunk as he was he could see that. "Eh, no. I've lived in Minas Tirith all my life. I've only been out t-to ride my horse.

"Wispa. Now she's a brat! She's kinda ugly - her head's too b-big to be a d-decent horse and her legs are too long to be a d-decent pony. But she's fast." He finished with some trailing of pride.

"Anyhow, I keeps her in t-that one stable down at the g-gate. What 'bout you?"

"I was born in Minas Tirith, and I've never been outside of Gondor. Yet the outside world intrigues me; my father was a mappmaker and traveled often." She told him. "He taught me much about the kingdoms of Arda, but I have never been to any of them, save Gondor." She added.

"You must enjoy riding horses." She said. She had ridden horses a few times, but she preferred using her feet.

His intoxicated mind dragging behind the conversation, Adrien wondered briefly why her father was a mapmaker and she had never been anywhere. That just didn't sound right. "But to be a mapmaker, didn't your-your-your father have to go p-places? Or did he just l-leave you here?"

As for the horse comment, Adrien just swirled his finger in the puddles on the table and nodded his head. "Riding is the best thing that ever happened to me," the drunk man's voice returned to normal for the moment, reflecting how much the subject had an effect on him. "B-but I don't get down to ride m-much anymore. Been too l-lazy."

"Yes," Appoline said, "my father traveled. But during the years he lived, I was too young to travel outside of Gondor. When he had to go somwhere, he left me home with my mother."

"Riding is the best thing that ever happened to you?" Appoline said. "I don't know what the best thing that ever happened to me was. Perhaps it was traveling outside of the confines of this stony city."
